Albarn himself, followed up with 2D's chaotic vocals over the swingin beat. The aggressive electric guitar samples by none other than Mr. Easily my favorite from their latest release, I love everything about this song. Honorable mentions: No Humanz on this list, but Charger almost made it. Damon's falsetto on this gives one chills, and that string section is too good. Perhaps I'm biased as a cello player myself, but I'd easily put this over fan-favorites from s/t like Tomorrow Comes Today or Slow Country (not that those are bad, certainly!). Sound Check (Gravity) - Much like my Number 8 choice, a very underrated track to me. I can't exactly place what aspect of it makes me like it so, but if I had to pick one it would be the subtlety of the lyric's message below a zany bass beat and De La Soul talking about plastic donuts. Superfast Jellyfish - A weird choice for some, but this has always been among my favorites of Plastic Beach. This sonic epic fully immerses the listener in it's encompassing sound, the piano melody is simply beautiful! November Has Come - How could anyone NOT love this song? It's motherfucking MF DOOM! One of my favorite rappers featuring on a Gorillaz track is a double thumbs up in my book.Įvery Planet We Reach is Dead - An often unspoken-of track from my knowledge, yet it's stands strong in my Top 3 of Demon Days. I was in awe the first time I heard it, the seamless transition from Damon's soft singing over the piano to the faster tempo electricity of the second half with Little Dragon is spectacular. Can't wait for the fan-animation for this next month!Įmpire Ants - The only way I can describe this song is simply breathtaking. The way the song goes bat shit nuts with the synths when Cyborg Noodle comes in at the end is great. Rhinestone Eyes - I really love Damon's melancholic, distant vocals on this, layered over a pleasant sounding electronica instrumental. Plastic Beach - From an instrumental standpoint, I think this is the greatest song Gorillaz ever produced. The quintessential Gorillaz song, what's not to love? Murdoc's rockin' bass line, Russel kicking it on drums, 2D's awesome vocals, Noodle's guitar on the chorus, and De La's verse, it's all great! Before I heard PB for the first time, this was my favorite song. I'd chalk this up to a good portion of what cemented Plastic Beach over Demon Days for me.įeel Good Inc.
